Rare photo of 1970s prefects

This photo of the prefects at St Peter’s College in 1970-71 was submitted by Chrysantha de Alwis, now visiting his daughter’s family and his first grandchild in Perth.
Chrysantha was the head prefect in those years and also was an attacking opening batsman in the First XI cricket team. His innings of 79 in 1971 was the turning point which enabled St Peter’s to turn certain defeat to a near victory.
After being bowled out for 121 in reply to the Josephians’ 223, the Peterites took the attack to the Joes, particularly Rajive Benedict who had claimed 5 for 48 in the first innings. Chrysantha was immediately on the front foot picking off Benedict for a number of boundaries. He and skipper Roy Dias (50) put on 70 runs for the third wicket, and St Peter’s declared at 8 for 235.
Set 133 to win, the Josephians were in trouble at 6 for 88 and the match ended in a draw.
